Outlander Fans, I Did A Thing…
Do you love Outlander?
Chances are, you do. Millions do. I do. I started reading the series when my middle child was a baby and she’s a fully grown adult now.
At the end of summer I began a massive project for a librarian friend who’s about to start an 8-week session of programming on all things Outlander*. She asked if I would create a backdrop for her for when she’s running all the virtual programs. Especially for when Herself, Ms. Diana Gabaldon, would be joining virtually on December 4th. Y’all…
Y’ALL.
Mission accepted.
The Challenge: Capturing the Essence of Outlander in One Papercut
How does one even begin to summarize over 10,000 pages of Outlander – the TV show and the books – into one piece of art? Let’s just say it took more than a few passes, both on my computer and ipad where I draft, and on paper, seeing what worked. The whole design needed to be hand-cut because all the details were too fine for my cutting machine. I spent weeks cutting out all the little details. But honestly, I love a challenge. I loved puzzling out how to deal with problems that cropped up. Each hurdle gave me confidence for the next would-be calamity. (Some, I’ll admit, I handled with more finesse than other!)
In the end, I love this papercut so much.

When I showed it to my friend, her eyes lit up. “Look at that!” She pointed at Roger’s dad’s RAF plane, which oddly was one of her favorite details. There are many more hidden gems within this design.
Hidden Afikomen and Easter Eggs in the Outlander Design
This papercut is full of little Outlander Afikomen/Easter eggs. (For those not in the know, on Passover, at the end of the seder, we play a game of hide and seek with half a matzah called the “afikomen.” Kids win prizes. Slobber-knockers between siblings ensue while the adults argue Israel politics. Or maybe that was just my house? Anyway…)
See if you can find Lallybroch, Fraser’s Ridge (North Carolina!), instruments in Claire’s medical practice and scientific inquery, Jamie’s Jacobites, his French wine business, and even the Fraser strawberries. I tried to include references to all the things I love about the saga, because if you love Outlander, you probably love them too.

“Don’t be afraid,” he whispered into my hair. “There’s the two of us now.” I felt warm, soothed, and safe for the first time in many days. It was only as I drifted into sleep under the first rays of daylight that I remembered the knife above my head, and wondered again, what threat would make a man sleep armed and watchful in his bridal chamber?
Outlander, Diana Gabaldon.
That quote… hoo-boy! It definately brings you straight back to the bond between Claire and Jamie. Their love and adventures through the centuries, while fighting political wars, and moral and emotional wars, inspired this design.
A New Outlander-Inspired Collection—Available Now!

Since it brought my friend so much joy (and honestly, same), I decided to scan it, make a few minor adjustments (most obviously, I’ve edited the color layer behind the papercut for a more swirling effect), and now it’s available in my shop.
You can grab it as a poster, canvas print, sticker, tote, and soon, a cozy blanket. Because, really, who wouldn’t want to curl up under a blanket and imagine Jamie whispering, “Don’t be afraid. There’s the two of us now?”
Get Ahead on Your Holiday Shopping (or Treat Yourself!)
If you’re already thinking about holiday gifts, now’s the perfect time to snag something special for a fellow book nerd/Outlander fan. Or, let’s be real, you might just want to treat yourself—and I won’t tell anyone. 😉

P.S.: I have it on good authority that there very well may be a smaller version of the papercut available to collectors soon. I’ll keep you posted!
