Ketubah Text Options
Consult your officiant: Discuss options with your rabbi or officiant, as they may prefer or require a specific text.
If you have your own text you’d like to use — and your rabbi or officiant approves, I’m happy to accomdate.
| Orthodox | Conservative with Lieberman Clause | Reform |
| Egalitarian | Brit Ahahuvim/Lovers’ Covenant | Interfaith |
| New Ketubah |
The Orthodox ketubah text is written Aramaic and is the most tradtional.
The Conservative ketubah text is also written in Aramaic. Some couples choose to add an English translation. The Lieberman Clause, added in 1953 by Talmudic scholar Professor Saul Lieberman, allows women to remarry even if their husbands refuse to grant them a divorce (get).
The Reform ketubah text takes a modern approach and is the most flexible in terms of what you’d like to add or take out. This text has egalitarian qualities.
The Egalitarian ketubah text is the one written by Rabbi Gordon Tucker and focuses on equality in the partnership, giving equal responsibility and roles in the marriage. It also does not include “kinyan” which details the bride acquisition.
PLEASE BE AWARE clients are fully responsible for finding and reporting any errors before approving the text for their ketubah. ROMANCE AND MISHEGOSS is not responsible for replacing approved texts.
